What does the City Clerk's Office do?
We provide access to open and transparent government, manage the municipal election process, preserve the City's legislative history, and serve the community with integrity.
It is the duty of the City Clerk's Office to conduct Municipal Elections in accordance with the City Charter, Municipal Code, California Elections Code, and Political Reform Act. The City Clerk staff provides guidance to candidates in meeting their legal responsibilities before, during, and after an election.
The City Clerk's Office coordinates the preparation and distribution of official City Council Agendas and Standing Subcommittee Agendas prior to each meeting. The City Clerk staff ensure that City Council actions are in compliance with statutes and regulations, and that all actions are properly executed, recorded, and archived.
The City Clerk's Office serves as the local compliance officer for federal, state, and local statutes including the Political Reform Act, the Brown Act, and the Public Records Act. The City Clerk's Office is the custodian of many public records of the City, including ordinances, resolutions, minutes of the City Council, election-related documents, campaign disclosure filings, Statements of Economic Interests, and many others. Management of the receipt and processing of petitions relating to initiatives, recalls, and referendums.
The City Clerk's Office maintains the Palm Springs Municipal Code, which is a compilation of City ordinances and is accessible at City Hall and online, City Charter, Conflict of Interest Code, and various other regulations.
The City Clerk's Office coordinates the recruitment process for all of the City's Boards and Commissions. Vacancy notices and applications are available at City Hall and online.
The City Clerk's Office is responsible for the acceptance of claims against the City under the California Tort Claim Act. Be sure your claim is against the City of Palm Springs, not another public entity.
The City Clerk's Office serves as the Secretary to the Oversight Board.
